You're probably here because of how frustratingly unintuitive and laborious Amazon has created the process of making this simple adjustment: changing the number of decimals in a field value for numeric fields.
I’m not here for the intros, so we’ll get right to it.
1. Select the Field in the Field Wells
This decimal change can only be done by selecting the field in the field wells, not by selecting the field within the visual itself.
2. Hover Over “Format: 1,234.57”
3. Select “More formatting options…”
I know, I know. Why there are more than three steps to this process is beyond me. We're almost there.
4. Select “Decimal Places”
When you select this dropdown, depending on the type of field it is, you'll see slightly different options. For example, a currency field doesn't have an Auto v. Custom option—it just has the box in which to change the number.
5. Change the Number of Decimal Places
(You can do this by either clicking the up/down arrows or typing into the box a number—the maximum is 20 places)
Here's a little demo to make your life even easier:
These will each be covered in individual posts, but you will likely notice that in this “Format Data” window you also have the ability to change your value Separators, the Units you want to use, how you want to see Negatives, and customize Null values, if desired.
